John Hessl, MD is a certified Diplomate of the American Board of Urology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. In between his internship and residency, he served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy from 1965-1967. Dr. Hessl began his professional urology career as Director of Urology at San Bernardino County Medical Center in 1971. At the same time, he held an appointment as Clinical Instructor of Urology at the UCLA Medical School. Since 1974, Dr. Hessl has been serving the people of the Bay Area in San Mateo County, practicing adult and pediatric urology. He has been Chair of several hospital committees at Mills-Peninsula Hospitals and San Mateo County General Hospital. He is also an Active Staff physician at Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City.
Dr. and Mrs. Hessl have two married children and two grandchildren. His hobbies include fly fishing, hiking, bicycling, cross-country skiing, and foraging for wild mushrooms.
